Beaune

I don’t have very much time to give an update, since I need to be packing for my next venture to Italy, but I thought I needed to share a bit about Beaune, France. After leaving the busy metropolis that is Paris, we drove off for the French countryside and have spent a few lazy days here enjoying the small town.

Beaune is in the Burgundy region of France, which is one of the best wine regions in the country. We’ve had the best wine yet at our meals here, attended a wine tasting and history lesson about the region’s wine. In addition to the wine, we were treated to a full five course French meal and even ate those illusive escargots and regional French cheeses.

The vineyards were less than an hour’s walk from our hotel, and so a few of us set off to walk around the French countryside and wander through the endless rows of grapevines. It was as picturesque as one could possibly imagine. Now I know that a vacation in France should not just be the thrilling sights of Paris, but a relaxing weekend in the countryside as well.

The weather was warm and peaceful, and we really used these three days as a transitional period, a quiet rest between Paris and Rome. I caught up on all my academic work and even had time to start a book. Truly this is how a school semester should always be.

Next report will be coming in via Rome – Au Revoir for now!
